... till I go spend the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] queerintheburg. :) It'll actually be our first holiday together, despite how long we've been seeing each other. I can't wait. :)

I'm working on a few final things to get ready for the weekend with him... I'm using my limited artistic ability to make us an Inuyasha-o-Lantern (Yes, an anime jack-o-lantern. You heard right.) and I'm trying to find some way to preserve the jack-o-lantern since my last one spoiled fairly quickly. I stopped into one of the local craft stores today trying to find something, but the person working there that I asked had never heard of anything like that and didn't even think you could do that with a jack-o-lantern. And most of the suggestions I'm finding online are rather flammable which seems bad for something around an open flame.

On the bright side, while I was in the craft store I found a really nice little bag... I'd been looking for something like it for a while now, but in other types of stores they've been much more expensive. 40 dollars or more. This was 20 bucks. The main difference seems to be that the other onces are "courier bags" and this is called a "crafting bag", but functionally they're almost identical, at least to my untrained eye. I'm quite happy with it, at any rate. It'll make carrying notebooks and stuff much easier... also will nicely hold a laptop if/when I get one... (which I am still hoping is just a matter of time... sharing a computer with my father gets more on my nerves every day.)

I made a Jack-o-lantern featuring a very frightening Laocorn from the Fatal Fury movie one year ^_^

HOW TO PRESERVE A JACK-O’-LANTERN

After carving your pumpkin (see the Web sites below for stencil ideas), wipe the inside with bleach to deter the growth of mould. After 30 minutes, rub the cut areas and the inside with a dry cloth, then coat with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil. To keep the jack-o’-lantern from drying out, cover it with a damp towel when it’s not on display.

I haven't seen any better suggestions, except keeping it in the fridge, which really only works as long as you're not displaying it.

What models are you looking at? Granted, this is from Amazon.com, but it's 22.99 +s&h
High Sierra Urban Courier Bag (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000AOX40/ref%3Dnosim/emvb-20/104-4351261-7824765)

I ask because the baf interests me. I have something similar, but it's less multi-functional and the main compartment comes with a hard case insert for hanging file folders. It has its uses, but its limited enough that I rarely carry it around with me, and that limits it further. :-/

I had been looking at a bunch of sites... don't think I thought of Amazon as a source for bags, though. I found this one actually in AC Moore, while shopping, so I could see for myself that it was actually what I wanted. I think the one other main difference between it and a technical courier bag or messenger bag is that it doesn't have the fold-over flap, but that's not very important I don't think... it has pretty much the same compartments, and actually I think I'd get annoyed having to move that flap out of the way for access all the time. I'm looking for the kind of bag that I got online, but I can't seem to find it anywhere... AC Moore doesn't seem to list their inventory online as far as I can find. The brand is "Regal", though...
