I've got a lot of metaphysical projects on my plate right now. The big one, obviously, is the research into the Babalon Matrix, but I've got a few other subjects simmering on the back burners as well. And today I found aspects of my orgone research connecting up with them in very interesting ways. Which led me to the following thought: it may be time to expand my website again.

Right now, I have a Reiki Annex up there with a lot (though not nearly all) of the material I have found about Reiki. I really like where I've been able to go with that portion of the website. And I've been thinking for some time now about adding in other parts, like a section on Huna, detailing how those systems can add to Reiki.

Now, though, I'm kind of leaning away from adding those aspects under the Reiki Annex. They're unique systems, and while they can definitely be used well together, they deserve a better and more thorough individual analysis than simply what they can do in the light of reiki practice. So I'm thinking it might be time to move the Reiki Annex into a larger section on magical/energetic systems which could contain my research into a variety of magical systems and healing methods. Then I could put all my research into Huna, Orgone, Faery, Alchemy, Qi Gong, Shamanism, and anything else relevant up there.

What do you all think? Would that be a useful change for the site?

OK, I know three of my friends are pagan/metaphysical authors. This is somewhat directed towards them, but I would also like input from those who are not.

What do you think the best style of citation would be for pagan/metaphysical texts? (Intext, footnotes, endnotes? APA, MLA, Chicago?) Why?

Gearing up for some work on my site (including its migration, hopefully) once I get settled in a new place, and some other related side projects, and I've been giving this a bit of thought. At least as of finding this tool, anyway: http://www.ottobib.com

I've been working on a few things tonight. First of all, I finally got my external USB drive working. Bought the adapter I needed a while ago, finally got around to hooking it up to my desktop and formatting it, then installed the drive back in the usb enclosure, hooked it up to my laptop and repartitioned/reformatted it. Complete success. :)

Then, I booted up Windows XP in Parallels. Great piece of software, that. I had thought that due to all of the free and/or open source virtualization software out there that I would never need to pay for a program like this. I'm seriously considering revising that opinion. I was able to boot up XP from the virtual disk on my laptop hard drive, and tell the virtual machine to use the physical external hard drive as a secondary hard disk. Not to put a virtual drive ON the physical hard drive, but actually to access the disk directly and use it as a normal hard drive from within the virtual machine. And from what I understand, I could have used it as a boot volume for the virtual machine in the same manner. I find that very useful.

Finally, I'm looking into the possibility of moving my WanderingPaths website to its own domain. I'm very grateful to [livejournal.com profile] kyoudai02 for hosting my site these past few years, but I've been thinking for a while now that it would be nice to have my own domain and be able to spread out my projects (wanderingpaths, reiki annex, and a few others yet to be announced) across multiple subdomains. The major reason I had not done so yet was a reluctance to start over in gaining google rankings on a new domain. Today we learned the http://www.heliwood.org account was, for reasons beyond our control, cancelled. If I stay with the twins and share hosting with them, it will involve moving the site to a subdomain of http://www.thehermeticdog.com/ That pretty much removes my reason for not getting my own domain, and so it looks like I will be striking out on my own. (Though I will still be collaborating closely with the twins, and have a hand in at least one project planned for http://www.thehermeticdog.com)

Presently, I haven't settled on a hosting provider yet, or much of anything really. I'm leaning somewhat towards http://www.dreamhart.org as the domain name, but that is very tentative at this stage. I'm pondering whether I want to build a server and host my site in-house or purchase hosting as well as registering the domain. There are positive and negative aspects to both approaches, and so far I haven't decided which would be most preferable for the various projects I have planned.

Input, as always, is welcomed.

I got an application today over on the wanderingpaths from a new member wanting to join. This is what the application read:

"I am part of the otherkin community at Otherkin.com i have not awakened myself and am not sure when or if i will but i have made many many friends in the otherkin community."

Taken by itself, I have no real problem with it, but then the warning bells started going off in the back of my mind. Otherkin.COM? I seem to remember never liking that site. Couldn't remember why, though, so I popped over to it and had a quick look at some of its FAQs. Oh, yeah... these guys are nuts.

From the FAQs:

"1). What makes a person a Vampyre?
A vampyre is a vampire who is "immortal" or "ageless". While nothing is really immortal, the Inheritor and Classical vampyres can and do live for hundreds or even thousands of years.
2). Do Vampyres really exist?
Yes."

It continues, but I really think that says it all.

So now I have to decide what to do about this application. I'm really of two minds on it. So far, my policy on wanderingpaths has been that anyone who is not actively disruptive is welcome. I'd like to continue that, and hopefully exposure to more mature viewpoints would help this person move beyond the kind of bullshit fostered by sites like Otherkin.com; on the other hand, though, I can't help but wonder if the mere presence of people espousing this kind of view wouldn't be a massive disruption in and of itself (not that wanderingpaths has been all that actively lately for there to be anything TO disrupt, though). When their worldview focuses around Slayers vs Otherkin and Vampires/Vampyres, to the point where it's even included in a disclaimer upon entering the site that nothing on the site is to be used for hunting otherkin (as if that would stop someone who actually WAS a Slayer IF such a thing existed, which it does not) I really have to wonder if they're sane enough to allow in.

Then again, I keep thinking about this great quote from my reading of Jefferson the other day:

"If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it."

And this reminds me of other quotes, too.

"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

This surely also applies to the governance of mailing lists, does it not? An active disruption is one thing, but to censor members based on the ideas they hold feels wrong to me. Or, put another way:

"Well, in all my years I ain't never heard, seen nor smelled an issue that was so dangerous it couldn't be talked about. Hell yeah! I'm for debating anything." -the character of Stephen Hopkins, from the movie version of the play 1776.

I think I'm going to end up approving this person. I just hope there are enough people with brains still paying attention to the list for reason to actually combat some of the shit they've undoubtedly bought into if they're active in the Otherkin.com community.
