Interesting Thing #1: At least one of my coworkers is pagan! The sister of one of my managers, and roommate of the other manager, is a server at Spanky's, and she is pagan. I found this out today when she mentioned reading the tarot for someone, and I asked her about it and she said it was part of her religion. I don't know what variety of pagan she is, I didn't want to pry too much all at once, but I just find this very very cool.
Interesting Thing #2: prayers to the gods to send us customers work great. Prayers to the gods to send us customers coupled with making a "Spanky's is now Open!" sign and putting it in the door work even better. ;-) After several slow days, we had a fairly steady stream of customers tonight and many larger groups.
Interesting Thing #3: Both my managers wish they could give me a raise already. They openly told me this today, even before I put up that sign and got a group of seven customers walk in about a minute after. Which just impressed them even more. :)
Interesting Thing #4: prayers to messenger/herald/guide gods known for having trickster aspects to send us customers do have a few minor drawbacks: ie, the occasional jerky customer, customers coming so close together and fast that it's hard to keep up, that sort of thing. But overall if you ask nicely there will be more of the good than the bad.
Interesting Thing #5: Spanky's lets you draw on almost all of the wood parts of the building in marker.... because of this, I guarantee that within a week there will be a septegram somewhere not-super-noticeable so it doesn't immediately scare the xtian customers away but not-invisible-either so the pagan/kin customers might see it and chuckle, in the bar section of Spanky's in Harrisonburg. Come look for it yourselves sometime. :)
