I got my first support point today. :) You can see for yourself by following this link, my support points are listed right below the number of journal entries I've made: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=jarindreamsinge&mode=full

Hi, bro. :) *grins* Support points are given by livejournal to users who act as volunteers in the support center, answering the support requests of other users. Any volunteer can submit a screened response to a support request, and the first correct one will be selected by an established support volunteer (referred to as a supporthelp) and will be made visible to the user who submitted the request. Then, the user can either resubmit the request and ask for a clearer answer, thereby starting the process over again, or the user can close the request. If the user closes the request, the user can assign a certain number of points to any of the volunteers whose answers were made visible to him. The number of points depends on how old the request is, with each question starting as being worth one point and rising slowly to ten. Sometimes users close without assigning credit, but the support points system has been designed with this in mind and it is not a large problem. Supporthelps can also close support requests and assign points to the answering volunteers if enough time has passed that it seems evident the request process has been abandoned by the user.

So far in the past few days, I have submitted answers to 14 support requests, had three selected as the first correct answer, and have received one point. The other two support requests that I answered are not yet closed, though, so I could easily be getting more support points soon. Considering that I just started volunteering a few days ago, I'm very pleased with how well I'm doing already and am looking forward to getting better at it. :)
