Ever have a recipe for something pop into your head out of nowhere?

I started out last night to make something along the lines of baked potatoes, though I've found boiling them rather than microwaving them makes them taste much better and have more of the texture that I like. While I was boiling them, I decided that some sauted onions would really taste good to me right now, so I chopped up an onion and mixed it in with some liquid butter and microwaved it for a bit. Then I waited for the potatoes to be done.

I put them onto a plate, and broke them up a bit like a regular baked potato... they had no skins to hold them together, since I had removed those before boiling, but I was more interested in the meat of the potato anyway. I don't know why I decided to do this, but I took the onions with butter sauce and poured them evenly over the potatos. Then I added some spices... a bit of salt, a bit of pepper, some garlic powder, and a tiny bit of curry powder. Then I cut up some cheddar strips and arranged them evenly over the dish, and microwaved it for two minutes to melt the cheese. It...was... DELICIOUS! :)

That's half of how I cook. The other half is meticulously following a recipe step-by-step. Thankfully, I've never had a spectacular disaster.

*chuckles* I used to do that sort of thing (as Duo can, unfortunately, attest to) till it occurred to me that possibly some of the dishes I had come up with might be accquired tastes, since I had originally come up with most of my unique recipes at a time when I and the person I was then living with didn't have money for a ton of food and I had to come up with a variety of dinners based on what we had available day to day, and I had gotten used to eating those dishes at that time. I'm starting to try out more recipes on people now, though, and I'm getting much better reactions to these recipes than I did to the ones I came up with primarily out of necessity. :)
