My brain is evil. I submit for your consideration the following:
"Captain Jack" Sparrow.
"Captain Jack" Harkness.
Two men with a penchant for operating outside the strict bounds of the law, and inside their own personal moral bounds.
Two men with a penchant for losing the ships they're captains of.
Two men of "ambiguous" sexuality.
But what if they're not two men at all? Harkness is a time traveler, after all, and some of those are known for changing their faces. And surely not every Time Lord could have something against the idea of taking a last name.
I foresee fanfic. Probably slashy fanfic considering the characters involved.

Now if I can just figure out a way to tie in "Captain Jack and the Mermaid"....
