Ended up changing my mind about staying in Hancock overnight... ended up just coming home. Took the back roads, so I could go as slow as I needed to on the way, and made it home without real incident (save for a cop pulling me over to ask why I had my four ways on, and informing me that the road was so deserted I really only needed to have them on if someone came up on me and I needed to indicate to them that they should pass, rather than keeping them on steadily. Told me to have a safe trip home, very nice gentleman.)

I'm going to see about taking my car in for servicing tomorrow. Still hoping it's nothing major, Benny did say I could get very very very very very very very lucky and have it be something as simple as a belt. That would be nice. Wish me luck on getting it resolved quickly and reasonably cheaply.

Now, I think I'm gonna go to bed. Goodnight, everyone, and thanks for a great Thresholds to those who were there.

Yeah, so, I need some advice. My car's problem does seem to be the transmission, according to AAMCO. According to them, it will cost between fifteen hundred and two thousand dollars to replace, since it needs to be rebuilt. It was not a simple superficial problem. I have been told that it may be possible to get a used car for less than that. I do not really know where, so far I've only been able to find used cars near here for six thousand and up. Currently, the car is in limbo, they are holding it until I decide whether to go the repair route or go with a different option. What I'd like to know is, does anyone here know of a place to buy really cheap cars that are somewhat dependable? I don't want to go the used car route only to have it nickel and dime us to death, that could easily cost more than repairing the transmission in this car. And I don't want to buy a car which is just going to turn around and have its own transmission fail or something similar. Advice, especially names of people you know in this area (Harrisonburg, VA) selling reliable cars cheap, would be great. I'm still not sure what to do, and I know so little about cars that I don't feel terribly competent to make this decision on my own. I will also be speaking with some locals who might be able to share more regional insight at work tomorrow.
