Music

I am looking for a song that I had a copy of several years ago. I believe it was by Velvet Hammer, and the song itself called "We do not die". It was a song sung by a woman, talking about how God had told her that there is no end, we do not die. Very powerful. I would very much like to find a copy of it again. Trying to get back some of the old music I had before hard drive death and multiple computer migrations. That one in particular, I want the energy of back in my life.

The band is now known as DreamTrybe.

Heh... thank you, I had forgotten they changed their name. Still not finding that particular song, but perhaps I'll get lucky yet.

Oooh, actually that turned out to be really really helpful, their main website turned out to have a full-length sample of that song that you could listen to in your web-browser! Thank you again! :)

===I have it and the second shorter album....as well as one of the side-projects.

Oh cool. :) Actually, I think the place that originally got me interested in them and that led me to that song in the first place was your website several years back, and a page on elven music.

Yanno, come to think of it, a lot of the music I find myself collecting again is by artists that your site's page on elven-resonant music first introduced me to. Velvet Hammer, the Waterboys, Jethro Tull... *ponders* I wonder if my musical tastes are cycling along with everything else... this is music I was heavily into in 2000 to 2001, if memory serves, and I keep seeing cycles of 2000 repeating themselves this year though thankfully in much more positive ways so far.

===Might I recommend Bel Canto and Nightwish into that list?

===(Bel Canto has some of the most elven stuff out there...and Nightwish...is, well, Nightwish...)

Okay, a look at the music page on your site confirms my belief that you need some Hector Zazou CDs in your life. It also supports my hunch that a compilation of Music for Elves could do worse than to begin with "anyone who has ever so much as burped on a Hector Zazou recording" and go on from there.

Not that I'm convinced that every artist he's worked with would fit the elven feel, but the percentage must be awfully high. A partial listing of people on his albums would include: Anneli M. Drecker of Bel Canto, Siouxsie & Budgie of the Banshees/Creatures, Brendan Perry & Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance, John Cale, Bill Laswell, B.J. Cole, Ray Lema, Peter Gabriel, Lightwave, Catharine-Ann MacPhee, Khaled, Värttinä, David Sylvian, Suzanne Vega, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Wimme, Tim Simenon (Bomb the Bass), Harold Budd, Hossam Ramzy, Lisa Germano, Carlos Núñez, Caroline Lavelle, Jane Siberry, Bjork...

Oooh, just by some of the ones he has worked with I see I'm going to have to check him out.

I am heavily biased in favor of the album Songs from the Cold Seas, but he's done lots of stuff worth digging into, melding and playing with a variety of musical styles. AllMusic Guide has a decent bio here (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:8ad8vwrta9qk~T1).

I think I've taken a look at Nightwish before and haven't really cared for them, but I'm not certain so I'll take another look. Bel Canto... don't remember if I've ever heard anything by them or not. I'll check them out. :)

Hmm... yes, I had taken a look at Nightwish before, and yes I had decided I didn't like them, and now listening to the very same song I clearly remember not liking by them... I am wondering why I did not use to like it! LOL. Interesting....
