I've heard a lot of theorizing (much of it with solid basis in fact) that our current administration is trying to engineer the Judeo-Christian version of the apocalypse with their actions in the middle east. Today it occurred to me that, failing that, they might try engineering something else. Something that they've been sorely missing since its fall. Russia.

Conservative thinking was at its height in the years of the cold war. Everyone was paranoid, wanted to beef up defense, and wanted to promote american ideology over communism to the point that we put dictators like Hussein into power as long as they would fight communism with us. It was paradise for the conservative hawks. And creating a new russia might very well be a possibility with the current middle eastern situation.

All it takes is getting the nations with fundamentalist islamic governments to want to band together against us more than they want to fight each other. Poof... instant russia: a super-powered country or coalition with an ideology conveniently opposing our most prevalent ones and the potential to use weapons of mass destruction to achieve their aim of destroying us. Sounding familiar? It should... it reads to me almost verbatim like our administration's characterization of the "Axis of Evil".
