I'm an idiot... I've been trying for hours now to write an essay about my view of what otherkin are, as it's recently been shaken about a bit and I've been reformulating it. But I just realized, the major things which have been reformulated in my views don't really deal with *what* otherkin are. I can phrase them as if they did, but in reality they deal with *why* otherkin are. The same answer can be given for why certain other things are as well, and suggest a connection or even a kinship between otherkin and those things, but they are not as I first thought also otherkin... at least not for the reasons I gave. Whether or not they can be considered otherkin for other reasons of course remains to be seen.

Funny... I originally started thinking about all this because of therianthropes and starseeds and shapeshifting and masks... but I don't think most of those things are going to amke it into the essay. *smiles softly* Given some of the lines of reasoning that I've followed in the last few days to try to define Dream, I probably shouldn't be all that surprised by this.

Sometimes it takes distortion to show someone what is really there... sometimes a mask reveals more than it conceals.
