My pleasure. Just something I came across today while looking for something else, and it struck me as an interesting perspective. Then I saw the quotes by silvaerina_tael and was even more intrigued. :)
The things we work with tend to dovetail nicely, even if we come at them from different angles. I'm still working on that thing I emailed you about, by the way. Waiting for some aspects of it to gell further in my mind before I finish writing it.
In the article Silvaerin'a sez: "About the only way I can describe these differences is that the Sidhe feel "cyclic" or "spiral", the Tuatha feel "angular" and the Ljossalfar feel "linear". Though I know that doesn't make much sense."
O.o
I hadn't used these terms before, but when I apply them to the feelings I have about these three kindreds, they fit pretty well. dood.
*chuckles* I'm not sure I entirely agree with those interpretations, but they're an interesting way of putting it at any rate. And it avoids the otherwise obvious Vulcan/Romulan/Klingon comparisons... ;-)
I am intrigued by the description of dark elves... I can say the descriptions of these dark elves fit a species I either made up or remember...
I wonder if descriptions of what I recall would fit with those who describe the dark elves. I'm particularly intereted in how both light and dark took to music and what qualities they perfer in it.
I think of light elves as being a little more palatable than described in many people descritpons. A snob doesn't have to act snotty. If you are being played with like a puppy, it doesn't have to be in a degrading manner. I respect my dog more than I do some people. With thies exception, their descriptions struck a chord or two with me.
Wonderign if it would do any good to describe some of what I remember(?) on any of the elf lists. The idea of a scism between light and dark rings a bell. What magics, I wonder, were oh so forbiden that it would cause some elves to be kicked out Jacky Chan style.
When I read that one statement about a person chosen to be some type of "anchor" for the elves in this world, a shiver when up my (our) spine.
There are a few things in here that really hit me that way. Anchoring is one of them, but so are more mundane things like the term "Peer-Corroborated Personal Gnosis". I think there's a lot of substance there to sift through.
Indeed. Either the author has been around the elven lists since 97 (I believe that's when a cuple popped up, correct me if I'm wrong) and took the time to persue painstaking research... OR... she took a month sifting through things she liked and lied to us and said they were peer cooberated. I give her the bennifit of the doubt because some of the things she pulls feel right to me, and she articulates herself well and in an educated manner. She also makes sure to mention her own perspective/ bias (what path she practices) and credit her many snippests of information. :)
All and all, I really like the article/ e book thingie.
