Facebook, Twitter, & LJ
I don't tend to make many private posts in my LJ these days. So I don't expect the new changes to really affect me. I do have Twitter & Facebook, and I occasionally crosspost between there and Dreamwidth/LJ for the purposes of announcing updates to my website, but I do that by hand rather than using the pingback feature.
As for the possibility of someone using the pingback feature to republish comments that quote my few private entries? I can't say that I'm especially worried about it. As it is, LJ doesn't have a quote feature, so you have to manually copy and paste it into your comment. That's the same amount of effort, really, as copying and pasting it to twitter or facebook directly. Plus, if I am making the rare private entry that I really care who reads it (rather than just marking it friends-only so it doesn't show up in random searches), that means I trust the people who have been given access to it. I don't generally think I need to tell my trusted friends not to be dicks. They're all grown-ups and should know how to play nice with others already.
Is there really an epidemic of "friends" going around doing stuff like this, like all the disclaimers popping up on my friends list would lead me to believe?
