Well, I have a paying gig this weekend: collecting signatures to get Mike Signer on the ballot for Lieutenant Governor for the Democratic Primary here in Virginia. So far, the going has been slow... in three hours this morning, I collected five signatures. I'm hoping it will pick up significantly this afternoon and evening. Decided to head home and grab some lunch when three or four other people from the same company showed up at my spot trying to collect signatures after I'd gone an hour without getting any. I'll probably head out again around 2pm and plan on staying out until 8 or 9 in the evening if things do pick up again.
For any of my friends here who are Virginia residents and either registered to vote or eligible to register to vote by June 9th, if you feel like stopping by and putting down your John Hancock, I'll be in Clarendon hanging out in the area by the Starbucks and the Whole Foods and the Barnes and Noble and the Apple Store. It's just a few blocks from either the Courthouse or Clarendon metro stops, on Clarendon Blvd.
Signing this petition does not mean you support Mike Signer's candidacy. All it means is that you think the people deserve to be able to vote either for or against him when the election comes. Virginia is kind of weird, all candidates need to collect 10,000 signatures to even appear on the ballot.
Also, though this is to get him on the ballot for the primary, you do not need to be a Democrat to sign the petition. Anyone can.
Hope to see some of you guys today. It'll make my day a bit less boring. ;-) And if you show up later in the evening, around 8 or 9, you're welcome to head back to my place with me when I call it quits and hang out for a bit... I live within walking distance of the spot I'm working.
Dunno if I'll stick with the same spot tomorrow yet or try to find better hunting grounds, but I'll let people know. Monday, I'm planing to hit up the area around my old job down in Alexandria and catch all of my old coworkers. :)
Edit: Was getting kind of cold, so I ended up coming home a bit early today. If anyone wants to hook up at my place this evening anyway, the offer remains open, just check this previous friends-locked (due to contact info) post for the address: http://jarandhel.livejournal.com/287223.html
