The city of Alexandria needs to go fuck itself. I don't live there, I work there, but I got a ticket there for "failure to display city tag". Only I was displaying my city tag, a temporary tag which would not expire until December 13th. I got the ticket on December 4th. Clearly, the officer misread the temporary tag and thought it expired on the third, since I had no other problems using this temporary tag before that. No problem, I'll contest it. Looked on the citation, where it has the following:

"Contesting This Citation:

The registered owner of the vehicle receiving this citation may contest the violation by presenting his or her driver's license to the Administrative Adjudication Office at 421 King Street, Suite 500, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. If unable to appear in person, the registered owner may contest the citation at www.alexandriava.gov/parking or write to Citation Processing Center, P.O. Box 1423, Alexandria, VA 22313-1423. The registered owner will be notified of the adjudicator's decision."

Sounds simple, right? Since I have work on weekdays, I opted for option #3: I wrote to the Citation Processing Center. I explained the problem in very polite and formal language, attached a photocopy of the temporary city tag, and sent it all in. I figured worst case scenario they wouldn't accept a photocopy and I would have to send in the original. Worst case, as it turned out, was quite different.

I got a form letter that said "We are unable to process your check or money order due to one of the reasons listed below." The reason was "other" with this helpful little note scrawled next to it: "No check was enclosed. Also, need to go to adjudication office. See attached." Attached to that was the location and phone number of the Administrative Adjudication Office. Round and round we go...

I am not happy about this. It should not be this hard to take care of a ticket that I never should have gotten in the first place.
