I just heard a soundbite of Bush talking on the radio. The topic was the New York Times story on domestic surveillance. He was trying to explain how harmful this kind of story is, by comparing it with a story about how in 1990-something there was a story printed about how the US was tracking Bin Laden by the kind of cell phone he was using, which prompted him to switch cell phones. The radio program, thank god, was quick to point out that story is an urban legend; the story in question only said he was using a satellite phone to give interviews, not that the US was tracking him by it. So right off the bat, Bush isn't even relying on actual "facts" like the rest of us in the reality-based community do. But I caught something that made it even worse.
At a certain point in the conversation, Bush started to say Saddam instead of Osama.
Think about that for a moment. He has trouble keeping the two of them straight, apparently, or remembering which of them he's talking about or something. Just think about the implications of that, when we already have one of them in custody. And NOT the one responsible for September 11th. Think about it.
