My Solstice Wishlist

I saw the Christmas Wishlist meme going around, and I felt like modifying it.

Winter Solstice is a very special holiday for pagans. It is the shortest day of the year, and the longest night. It is, like in the poem by Robert Frost, the darkest evening of the year. Yet it is on this day that we celebrate the light. The rebirth of the sun. The promise that Spring will come again, even in the midst of the harshest winters. It is a day which celebrates hope.

This is my Solstice wishlist. It is not a list of items I want, nor things I want done for me. It is a list of hopes, wishes for light to return to the world. This is a list of my Solstice dreams. What are yours?

1. May many "common" ideas spread again throughout the world... common ground, common laws, common wealth, common good, common sense, common cause...


2. May peaceful men of religion gain more influence over the paths of their religions than those violent men who act in the name of religion.


3. May men come to believe in liberty of conscience just as strongly as they believe in the rightness of their own paths.


4. May sovereignty again be prized; by all men and for all men, by all nations and for all nations.


5. May men regard the lives and well-being and happiness of other men as more important than personal profit.


6. May men be judged for who they are; for the quality of their character and the depths of their love for others, and not for what gender they feel desire for.


7. May man turn his imagination to touching the heavens again, rather than to making new and better weapons to turn life on earth into a living hell.


8. May families and nations no longer be so divided. Instead, let them come together and find common ground by which to work together for a better future for all.


9. May despair never triumph over hope.


10. May the wrong ever fail, the righteous prevail... with peace on earth, goodwill to men.
