I felt drawn to write some poetry today... had the last line of an old poem I wrote floating around in my head, and I ended up writing an entirely new main body for it. Fairly dark, but so was the original and it is that time of year.
When you wake at last from a long dark sleep,
and you're cold and soaked in sweat;
When the darkness coils like a living thing,
and you feel its silent threat.
When shadows whisper, nightmares stir,
and you're face to face with fear;
When you've lost your way and can't go home
to all that you hold dear.
When you can't change the past, and can't stand the sight
of the things you can't undo;
When freedom becomes but a sputtering flame
that winks and fades out of view.
When friendships are dead and hope is a dream
and pain is all you can know;
When love fades away like lost memory
to wither: a rose in the snow.
When your world in shattered torment lies,
and you cannot see the light;
When lies are many and answers are few,
don't question what's wrong or right.
Carpe Noctem.
Sieze the Night.
