So, yesterday I started actually answering support requests on LJ. So far, I've answered eleven requests and had my answer approved twice (once after multiple supporthelp suggested revisions), with one screened response pending that could go either way. I'm rather proud that my answers are being accepted already, since there are warnings in some of the newbie- support-volunteer documentation that it can take a while before you start getting answers approved.

I've also found that I really do need to run things through a spell checker before I submit them, and have found that on my computer the best way to do that is not to open up a new program (I have a slow, older computer) but instead to run it through a free online spell checker that I keep open in a seperate browser tab. I've found a good one at http://www.spellcheck.net that is meeting my needs nicely, currently.

I anticipate getting better at this, and getting more answers approved, as I learn where the information is located in the various FAQs that support can directly reference. I also need to learn more of the approved terminology for LJ because a working knowledge of things like the difference between community moderators and community maintainers (the latter is the correct term, the former is not) are important for answering support requests correctly.

Oh, and in case anyone is curious, no support points yet since the support requests have not yet closed... but on the bright side, the longer they stay open the more they're worth so I wouldn't mind too much if they stayed open a few days and racked up ten points each. ;-)
