There are those in this world who choose to use obfuscation, manipulation, and fear as their weapons. Hiding in the shadows, they seek to pull others into a web of fear and confusion in order to control them, through a pattern of lies and intimidation launched from the safety of the all-concealing darkness. Like bogeymen, they inspire the young and the naive to fear the darkness and the dangers that lurk within it... until you realize that there is nothing present in the darkness which is not also found in the light. The world is still the same whether by sunlight or by starlight. Shadow-dangers exist only within your mind, and the moment you realize that, they lose all power over you. Especially since, with that realization, comes the knowledge that those who use the shadows as a hiding place do so out of fear. Their web of deceit is a tool used to keep others away from them, to try to keep themselves safe. But by surrounding themselves with such a shield, they have unwittingly trapped themselves as well. When you weave a web of lies and half-truths about yourself, you are the one who is being the most ensnared. And eventually, stuck there, the light WILL fall on you and shatter all your dark illusions.

Note: this post uses the terms darkness and light as metaphors, respectively standing for obfuscation and revelation. It is not meant to be taken as a commentary in any way on the actual properties of darkness, light, nor the states which are both or neither. Bonus points if anyone can identify the inspiration for this particular metaphor. Hint, think anime. (And I want the exact episodes, not just the show, the show's too easy.)
