I haven't had much time for adventure lately.  My present day job keeps me busy 6 days a week, generally from fairly early in the day to quite late at night.  But I do have some free time, and recently I've begun using that free time to go on adventures.

One recurring adventure has been simply to go for walks in the local park, along Holmes Run, late at night.  On some of these walks I've left behind the Ellis sigil that I've posted about so much recently.  On others, I've been gifted with interesting objects by the local spirits of place - one of which has become a new technomagical tool for me, and two others of which have now been passed along to someone who can do more with them than I.

Tonight, I neither took tokens nor left them - I simply walked the park with an awareness of the thinness of the veil, the presence of the local spirits, and the Potential of the place.  That was enough.  And then the park gifted me with something extraordinary.

At the exact entrance of the park, as I was leaving it to come back home, I saw a black shape moving under the light of the street lamps.  At first, I thought it was a rat.  So I turned my flashlight on and took a closer look.  Green eyes glowed back at me in the LED light, and I revised my opinion - clearly it must be a cat.  Then it turned and I saw its full profile in the light before it bounded into the woods - it was a young "black" (dark greyish-brownish-red) fox.

It might not seem like much, until you put it together with the fact that a fox of that exact description is currently hanging out in the metaphysical space of someone close to me.  A black fox with green eyes.

Magic happens.  Get out there and see it.

Don't be afraid to have adventures.

You probably didn’t know this, but glamourbombing is dead.  Shot through the heart by the grim specter of consensual reality we call the Mundane World.  I would like to say that she waged a valiant battle against overwhelming odds – but the truth is, she didn’t.  Instead, I’ll say this: never bring glitter and mailbox doilies to a gun fight.

For anyone who was a fan of The Relic Hound on Etsy, the owner has moved to a new shop, Cynanthropy Crafts:

Cynanthropy Crafts is a small online shop providing a select number of craft pieces made with specific intent, for connecting with one's animal nature. The shop itself has a specific canine focus, based on the craftsman's personal experience. Craft pieces tend to be made from animal remains and natural history objects and remnants.

Cynanthropy Crafts does not support sport hunters, fur farms or other sources based in the torture or unnatural living of a wild animal, and you will not find the products of such items in my shop. Most of the items presented are secondhand items, cast offs, antique shop finds, or related. I do not wish to create a demand on "cast off" animal remains and put further environmental pressure on a species. All items that are products of animal remains will only be sold as "worked" or "finished" into completed craft pieces, made with intent and with an animistic focus.

The owner of Cynanthropy Crafts does not run this site for profit as its sole intention. Profit destroys species. Just because you did not pull the trigger or set the trap does not mean you are rendered blameless. "Recycled" does not always mean "ethical". Educate yourselves, and know your sources.

This crafter does great work in both a physical and metaphysical sense, and I highly recommend checking the new shop out.

I’m very pleased to announce that AnOtherWiki has reached a new milestone, hitting a full 600 articles on the eve of it’s one year anniversary.  This is an amazing accomplishment, particularly in the face of persistent DDoS attacks which have attempted to make the site unusable, but there’s still so much work yet to be done.  Let’s work together in the year to come to double and redouble our efforts.  This is our encyclopedia, written for our community by our community and about our community. Let’s make it everything it can be, together.

Thank you all!

1. Find a way to fall out of love.
2. Figure out a way to tell if someone really is who I think they are, before falling in love with the person I think they are.
3. Find a person I can fall in love with, if such exists anymore.

Clarifying: I'm not removing people for being friends with my ex. I'm removing ones I met through him, AND who haven't spoken to me lately.

I’m very pleased to announce that, despite recent Denial of Service attacks on AnOtherWiki, we’re still here and we’re still going strong.  Tonight we’ve hit a new milestone – 400 articles.  This is an amazing achievement since we just hit 300 articles on December 24, 2012.  We’re currently averaging roughly 2.56 articles a day.  We’re hoping to do better still, though, and are aiming for a whopping 600 articles by the wiki’s one-year anniversary on March 20, 2013!

This is our encyclopedia, written for our community by our community and about our community.  All it costs us is a bit of time and effort, and the reward is quite worth it.  Let’s work together to make it everything it can be.

As always, a big “Thank You!” to everyone who has helped make this possible, and who continues to help us as we grow and mature as a wiki.

It seems there were a couple of problems with account creation on AnOtherWiki.  While you could sign up using the login/create account link in the upper right, the link to create an account under the Help:Registration page did not work properly.  This has now been corrected.

Further, it appears that I set up the DNSBLs that AnOtherWiki uses to be a bit too strict.  As a result, some Comcast users were incorrectly being blocked due to their presence on the Policy Block List of spamhaus.org.  I have now stopped using zen.spamhaus.org, which incorporates the Policy Block List, and am using the Spam Block List and Exploit Block List individually.  Other users besides Comcast may have been affected, it was just reported by someone using Comcast.  If you tried signing up before and were told you were using an open proxy when you weren’t, try again.  If you’re still having trouble, send me an email (jarandhel at gmail dot com) with your IP address and I’ll look into it.

Finally, I’ve changed the captcha questions to try to make things a little easier for folks new to the community. If you’re still having trouble with them, or would like to suggest additional general-knowledge otherkin questions that could be used as captchas, please email me at the address above.

AnOtherWiki was started on March 21, 2012.  As of 11:00pm EST, December 24, 2012 it now hosts 300 articles about otherkin, therians, vampires and related communities.  That’s an average of 1.075 new articles every day.  This is an amazing milestone, and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make it possible.

AnOtherWiki also hosts what I believe is the most complete and up-to-date listing of upcoming events for otherkin, therians, and vampires anywhere in our communities – though I’m always looking for new ones to add.

I’ve also been making a concerted effort to expand AnOtherWiki’s listing of resources within these communities, and jargon used by our communities.  These are ongoing efforts, and will likely take quite a while to complete.

Many of these articles are also still quite sparse.  There’s a lot of work to be done to flesh them out, and a vast number of articles still to be added on a wide variety of subjects.  So I’m putting out another request for help:  Join AnOtherWiki as editors, and help us continue to grow.

Share with us your websites, forums, chats.  Your gathers, minigathers, and meetups.  Share with us your knowledge of the community, its terms, and the people who make it up.

As I’ve said before: This is our encyclopedia, written for our community by our community and about our community.  All it costs us is a bit of time and effort, and the reward is quite worth it.  So let’s work together to make it everything it can be.

Well, tonight was the Northern Virginia Otherkin Meetup again. This was our fourth meetup since the change from Sticks and Stones (a local pagan shop) to local restaurants as the venue for the meetup, and so far it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.

The first meetup was very well attended – we had seven people show up, including myself and my roommate Raven. The second meetup was very poorly attended, with just myself and Raven showing up. The third meetup there were four of us total. And this meetup was just myself and Raven again. I’m a bit disappointed by this. So’s Raven.

I’m still convinced that there is a need for a meetup in this area. When I started it up, I heard from many people that they were glad to hear of something in this area, because there are never otherkin events in Northern Virginia. So far, none of the people who told me this have actually shown up. Which might go some way to explaining *why* there are never otherkin events in Northern Virginia…

But in any case, I’m going to keep going. Even if it’s just me and Raven who show up, we can have a nice dinner out together. And if more people show up, wonderful.

And hey, if there’s something I can do to make it more likely that you will show up, say so – if you need it held on different days or at different hours, if you need it announced further in advance or announced more frequently or announced in different locations, if you need it held at different venues in the area, let me know. I’m happy to work with folks on this.

Right now I’m advertising the event fairly widely, but if you need a method of easily seeing when the next one is going to be there are a few ways you can do this:

First, you can join the announcement list for it: http://groups.google.com/group/otherkin-support-group/

Alternatively, you can subscribe to the following rss feed or ical feeds for the events I am running, online and off:
http://www.localendar.com/public/jarandhel?style=D3
http://www.localendar.com/public/jarandhel?style=X2

Finally, you can subscribe to this rss feed for every upcoming public otherkin meetup, minimeet, or gather of which I am presently aware, worldwide:
http://tinyurl.com/kinevents

So yeah, that’s the state of the meetup. We’re gonna keep going, and I hope to see more people there, soon.
